Core Beliefs and Values I value helping other and working together to make our world a better place. I strongly believe that if everyone worked for others, rather than themselves, we could eliminate a lot of the issues that we have in the world. This is why I plan to gauge my success not on how high I climb the corporate latter, but by how many lives I am able to change for the better. In my opinion, a belief for working toward the betterment of the world is the only require core value of leadership.
Leader Qualities and Characteristics I don't believe there is a single quality of being a leader- rather it is made up of several characteristics. Leaders must be truly compassionate- both about the people they lead and the rest of the world. They must be able to communicate, or have basic people skills to interact within and outside of their community. Leaders should be passionate about the world and helping people around them. Individuals in leadership positions should be strategic thinkers and be able to make tough decisions in dire situations. They should be visionary and be able to visualize goals for their organization, bot short and long term.
Leadership Approaches Leaders must be willing to constantly monitor how effective their leadership is and be willing to adapt their methods if needed. Communication is a vital part of this, and leadership in general. Leaders should be in constant communication with all levels of their community. Leadership should be benevolent and not harsh on their communities or the ones that surround it. It should consider both short and long term goals and the effect it will have on the organization and surrounding communities.
Educational Perspectives Leadership is not something can be completely learned in a classroom. Part of leadership is experiencing it in your own life, both as a leader and as a follower. This does not mean that leadership should not be taught in the classroom. Learning the basics and history of leadership is vital to a basic understanding. Educating students about history and the failures of our past leaders is vital to our understanding of leadership.
Expriecened Leadership Outcomes Experiencing leadership is one of the most effective ways to develop your own leadership philosophy, particularly the breakdown of leadership. Throughout my college career, I've experienced so many different types of leadership. I've gotten to see what is most effective and what leadership methods left something to be desired. Through experiencing the failures of other's leadership, I have seen the exact effect of leadership that does or doesn't do something. I saw the specific consequences of leadership mistakes and why it was so important not to make them.
